The best advice on purifiers

The downside of drinking tap water
The water on the planet now is the same water that was on the planet several billion years ago and with an increase in population and a rise in chemicals, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and carcinogens, your water is far from pure.
Your drinking water can come through miles of pipe before it gets to you and some of that pipe may still be lead.
A lot of waste water goes straight from the household sewer to the water treatment plant and back to the home, missing out nature's natural filtration system of rain clouds, deep earth and salt seas. A common saying is that “a cup of tea in London has already passed through five people".
Although water treatment in the UK is good in comparison with some countries, many chemicals are still used in the process.
Bottled water is becoming less and less reliable as more chemicals leak into our natural environment. Very few bottled water companies sell fluoride free products even less add the natural minerals that your body needs.

Yes, you are too good for normal tap water. We all are.

A water purifier from Vibrant Water will give you clean pure water and add back all of the natural organic minerals your body needs. If you buy bottled water you also make a massive saving.

A ‘water filter’ removes larger bodies in the water by means of a physical barrier and can include ‘Reverse Osmosis’ (RO).
A ‘water purifier’ refers to equipment which makes polluted water safe and includes, filtration, reverse osmosis (RO), ultra violet light and adding natural minerals to the water. You may also hear the terms ‘home water treatment’ or ‘water treatment system’ used.
Whether a product states it is a filter, purifier, RO, or home water treatment system, before purchasing it is important to consider what it takes out, what it puts in and the the installation and annual running costs.

We have researched into various products from the global market, simplified the jargon and selected our favourites.

Water filter and jug
These have been very common since the 1980’s. They generally remove chlorine, heavy metals, bad taste and odour. Most people find it hard to remember to fill them up regularly. They end up cooking and making tea with unpurified water and actually drink less water than they normally would and still buy bottled water as filling up before going out is too time consuming. Although cheap to buy initially, the filters do not last long and often need replacing.

At the tap filter
An at the tap filter can have the same type of filter as a jug or it can be a full purification system with seven filters, reverse osmosis, UV light, alkaline remineraliser and pump to increase your water pressure if needed. You usually do get what you pay for but there are also inferior products on the market with high price tags.
A good filter will have at least five filtration processes to gradually purify water without losing water pressure. Individual filters can include:
Sediment Filter - Removes dirt, rust and sand particles
Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) - Takes out 99% of the chlorine and organic chemicals. Reduces bad taste and odour
Carbon Block - Reduce chlorine, taste, odor and sediments
Fluoride filter - Removes fluoride
Post Carbon - Removes tastes and odours
Reverse Osmosis Membrane - Reverse osmosis is filtration at the microscopic level using osmotic pressure and the natural chemistry of water and its impurities to remove them. It removes the following hard water contaminants that may be present in your water: lead, copper, barium, chromium, mercury, sodium, cadmium, fluoride, nitrate, and selenium. Generally they need changing about every 2 years.
Alkaline Filter / remineraliser - The Alkaline filter changes the acidic RO water into a perfect Natural Alkali Calcium Ionized Water. The Alkaline filter replaces the good minerals back into your water including ionized calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium ion, which were taken away while purifying the water.
Ultra Violet light - Ultra Violet (UV) water filters are highly effective at eliminating bacteria, viruses, pathogens and other micro-organisms that can be found in un-treated water. They provide reliable disinfection without using chemicals or changing any other aspect of the water.
The water passes through a chamber and is flooded with Ultra Violet light, thereby neutralising the DNA of the microorganisms.
Commonly used in the food industry and for treating private water supplies in storage tanks or directly from boreholes, lakes, and rivers, there is no reason not to take UV into the home for added protection and peace of mind

Replacements
Changing filters happens about every six months, the UV lamp about once a year, and the reverse osmosis membrane every two years. Even after install costs and with the addition of a UV lamp this is still so much cheaper than our £0.90 for a 2L bottle based on a family of four drinking 2 litres a day each for six months scenario of £657.

Whole house filtration
Whole house filtration will filter all of your drinking, bathing, showering and gardening water. It will also protect and prolong the life of your appliances (washing machines, dishwashers, taps and so on). In hard water areas we suggest that you include a water softener as most whole house filtration systems only remove 50% of the limescale. Note that they do not remove all of the impurities that a good at the tap purifier will but we can still add an alkaline remineraliser can be added before any drinking water tap.

If you are in a hard water area and on a tight budget we would suggest a water softener and an at the tap purifier instead of a whole house filtration system.
If you can afford all three then obviously there are greater health benefits for you, your home and garden.
